The Shikoku - Kyushu Island League announced today that beginning on 2/1, their league name will officially change to Shikoku Island League plus.
And according to comments made by league CEO Makoto Kagiyama, the league decided to keep most of the original name because they wanted to show respect for the history of their league and to continue honoring the Shikoku region for all their help and support over the years. As for the plus, it apparently points to a brighter future that the league will hopefully continue moving towards.
It should also be mentioned that the one Kyushu team that was in the league, the Nagasaki Saints, dropped out of the league after the season last year.
UPDATE 1/28/2011 @ 11:47am - Suzuki is expected to return to Japan at the end of February, which means any sort of official announcement involving him will probably be put off until then. As of now, the team will most likely be based out of Kobe and there's a good chance it could take on the name of Kobe 9 Cruise. It seems the league also expects Suzuki to bring along some players with him when he returns to Japan.
