As if a bird flu outbreak wasn't enough for people living in Miyazaki, they, as well as people in Kagoshima, now have another problem to deal with: Mount Kirishima, located along the border between Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures, has erupted and continues to erupt. Smoke columns as high as 2,500 meters have been reported by the weather agency. Rocks have been blasted as far as 8km and ash has disrupted train and plan schedules in the area.
The air in Miyazaki City, where the Giants hold their training camp, appeared hazy from the ash. City workers in Nichinan, where Hiroshima and Seibu will be holding their training camp, recorded several centimeters worth of ash accumulations.
