Hiroshima Carp Spring Camp News and Notes: February 1, 2011

Chad Tracy took 51 swings during BP and hit 3 over the fence.  He didn't hit any balls over the fence on consecutive swings, but did apparently show a compact swing that was good at spraying the ball all over the field.

The Carp received sake, hirami lemon, and various other food items from Okinawa City during their opening ceremony before practice today.


Kenta Kurihara spent time swinging the bat at Okinawa Stadium on Monday.  Akihiro Higashide, Tetsuya Kokubo, and Yuta Shirahama also spent some time taking soft toss BP on the main field.


Yuya Fukui (1st round) told reporters yesterday that he wanted to toss a bullpen session sometime during the second block of spring camp.

8:45am - Fukui arrives at the stadium.

9:15am - The players take part in a kick-off ceremony.

9:45am - Fukui takes part in a team meeting on the field.  He looks a little nervous.

10:00am - Warm-ups begin.

11:00am - Pitchers begin base-running exercises.

11:35am - Fukui plays catch with Yuki Iwami (3rd round).

12:00pm - Fukui practices his bunts in the cages.

1:01pm - Fukui heads to the bullpen.  He watches four other rookies pitch.

1:30pm - Lunch time.  Menu: Mizo ramen.

1:50pm - Fukui goes to the track and does various trunk strengthening exercises.  After that, some running.

3:15pm - Fukui answers some TV interview questions.  He tells reporters that he didn't think the first day of practice was too hard.

3:30pm - Weight training begins.

4:45pm - Practice ends.  Fukui boards the bus for the trip back to the hotel.
