Takao Obana hasn't scheduled any evening practices this year (same as last year) and hopes that players will take initiative to practice more if they feel they need it. The media found out yesterday that pitching coach Atsushi Yoshida went against the NPB convention rules and provided some coaching to a rookie at the Yokosuka training facilities in mid-January. According to the NPB convention, coaches can not provide any instruction between 12/1 and 1/31, unless they receive special permission from the NPB commissioner. The club is still in the middle of investigating what happened, but is also considering an appropriate punishment.
An update (8:46pm): Yoshida told reporters he didn't providing any coaching instructions, although he could understand why it might look that way. He added that he should have been a little more careful. At this point, it seems the team won't punish Yoshida (he already received a warning from the NPB).
