This post will be updated throughout the day.
For full-squad evening practice, Ni-gun manager Masahiro Kawai gave everyone a refresher course on bunting. Kawai holds the record for most career sac hits with 533.
Tatsunori Hara told reporters that he was satisfied with how prepared the players were for the first day of spring camp and that the team was off to a good start. Seems he was particularly high on Takahiko Nomaguchi and Norihito Kaneto.
Hideki Asai threw a team high (for the day) 122 pitches in the bullpen today. He told reporters that he ended up throwing more pitches than he originally planned because there were a few things he was checking. Regarding Sawamura, Asai said that watching him play catch reminded him of Masahiro Tanaka playing catch.
The Giants visited Aoshima Shrine before practice today.
Shinnosuke Abe wants to help create / improve team unity through communication -- that is, he'll do his job to make everyone feel comfortable, including the foreign players and the rookies. ... Abe is hoping fans will drop by their Naha camp when they go see Yuki Saito (HAM, 1st round) in Nago (since it's along the way).
Hirokazu Sawamura (1st round) told reporters yesterday that he figures there will be days during spring camp where he'll throw more than 100 pitches and that there also might be days when he tosses sessions on back-to-back days.
Daily Sports is also carrying a report on Sawamura's first day:
