The Hawks have the day off today.

===

Ayatsugu Yamashita (1st round), Yuki Yanagita (2nd round), Takaki Minami (3rd round), and Masato Sakata (5th round) took part in an eel-grabbing event during the day off today.  Kenta Imamiya and Soichiro Tateoka worked out on their day off today.  Batting coaches Yoshiie Tachibana and Yasuo Fujii helped coach the two during 1 hour workout.

Toshiya Sugiuchi suddenly took the mound at the secondary field after playing catch yesterday and pitched for about 20 minutes.  Sugiuchi only threw fastballs during his 58-pitch bullpen session the day before and ended up adding his curve and slider to the mix yesterday.  He also told reporters that the blister he got while tossing his bullpen session the day before was ok.

After BP yesterday, Hiroki Kokubo picked up a short bat and started taking soft toss BP, while switching between using his left and right hand.  After that, he also took some long soft toss BP using the same short bat, but now swinging with both hands.  Kokubo apparently got the idea when he heard that Alex Rodriguez used similar training methods to improve his hitting.  Matt Murton (HAN) also used a short bat during BP last year.

According to Nikkan Sports, Jose Ortiz will likely start at third once he's ready to take the field.  Seiichi Uchikawa will probably start in left with Nobuhiko Matsunaka standing in as back-up.  Once Uchikawa gets used to his new surroundings, the Hawks may rotate him around to other positions to give players rest and to allow others some playing time.  And because the Hawks have already ask Uchikawa to be ready to play multiple positions, Uchikawa plans on spending some time not only in left, but also in center, right, and possibly third.

In any case, for the time being, it seems Uchikawa will be starting in left.
