The Swallows Ichi-gun roster has the day off today.

Junji Ogawa and the other the Ichi-gun coaches visited Ni-gun camp today in order to check out a number of players, like Tetsuto Yamada (1st round).

Norichika Aoki told reporters yesterday that he's thinking about donating some money towards Miyazaki this season (10,000 yen for every hit he collects).

Said Aoki, "Foot and mouth disease, bird flu, and the Kirishima volcano, the new out of Miyazaki has been depressing.  And that's why I'd like to donate some money for each hit I collect. ... The volcanic ash reaches my parents house is in Hyuga, Miyazaki.  I want to do something to help."

Aoki arrived at spring camp at 79kg (he lost 2kg during the winter) and will be using a new pair of cleats that are 20-30 grams lighter than the cleats he wore last year (which were about 300 grams per shoe).  During BP on Friday, Aoki swung the bat 58 times and collected 37 could-be hits.

Sanspo notes that Chang-Yong Lim threw 55 pitches (all fastballs to a standing catcher) during his bullpen session yesterday).  Regarding the new baseball, Lim said he didn't have any problems.

Tsubakuro may not be allowed to attend Ryogoku Nigiwai Matsuri this year because of the sumo gambling scandal.  The NPB is trying to distance itself from things like gambling and organized crime and allowing Tsubakuro to attend an event that has close ties to sumo may not be good for the Swallows' image.
