Yokohama Bay Stars Spring Camp News and Notes: February 6, 2011

This post will be updated throughout the day.

Takao Obana had a chance to watch some of the rookies toss bullpen sessions today, like Kota Suda (1st round) and Kisho Kagami (2nd round).  Suda threw 30 pitches.

Hichori Morimoto got an MRI on his right shoulder today and found that there was nothing structurally wrong it.  The problem, it seems, is fatigue.  As such, he spent the day working out under a separate menu (like running, trunk strengthening exercises).

Brett Harper took 62 swings of the bat during BP yesterday and hit 22 over the fence.  His performance prompted Yomiuri Giants' advance scout Kanenori Tarumi to say the following comments:

Doesn't seem like the new baseball has any effect on Harper.  He doesn't have a lot of weaknesses.  The way [he's swinging the bat right now], he's probably going to be a player to watch for again this year.

If he can stay healthy over the course of a full season, I'd say he might have a shot at a HR title.
