Seibu Lions Spring Camp News and Notes: February 7, 2011

by on Feb.07, 2011 @ 3:36 pm, under NPB

This post will be updated throughout the day.

===== 2/8 @ 1:00am

Tatsuya Oishi (1st round) threw 69 pitches in the bullpen today.  Oishi is beginning to feel fatigue in his lower body and had a lighter training menu scheduled after his bullpen session.

Said Oishi, "I'm feeling a little tightness in my calves today.  Must be from the different things I'm doing now, compared to when I was in college.  Watching Wakui has given me a better idea of how to move my weight while pitching."

Nishiguchi faced Hiroshi Hirao and Hidekazu Hoshi during BP today and threw 46 pitches while allowing 7 could-be hits.  He threw the remaining 114 pitches in the bullpen session after his BP outing.

===== 2/7 @ 10:18pm

Fumiya Nishiguchi has tossed a bullpen session every day since the start of camp (except for the team's day off on the 4th).  Today he made an appearance during BP and ended up throwing a total 160 pitches.

===== 2/7 @ 3:36pm

Hiroyuki Nakajima and Takeya Nakamura took lunchtime BP yesterday -- Nakajima took 100 swings and hit 17 over the fence; Nakamura took 45 swings and hit 13 over the fence.

Hideaki Wakui threw 32 pitches to a standing catcher and 13 pitches to a half-bent catcher yesterday.

The Lions first game of the season is scheduled against Yu Darvish and the Nippon Ham Fighters at Sapporo Dome this year.  In response to that, Wakui said, "More than facing particular batters, I have the most fun when pitching [against Darvish].  I haven't won any games against him so it would be great if I could win an opening day start against him."

He also told reporters that he still hasn't been approached about the opening day start but has been working out the entire off-season with that in mind.
