The Ichi-gun Marines have the day off today.
Tae-Kyun Kim stayed back for extra batting practice yesterday and took 91 swings while hitting 4 over the fence.
Said Kim, "The extra BP was so that I could check on my balance. I wasn't aiming for any home runs. ... Last year, it wasn't until I found out that the fans wanted me to hit homers that I started to fall apart. This year, I don't want to focus on home runs all that much."
The Marines aren't jumping to any conclusions about the Hanshin Tigers' 28-player protected list and won't make any decisions until they've had a chance to look at the list and see who's available.
Said operating director Akira Ishikawa, "We want to see the list first. If there's a good player, we'll take him."
An unnamed club official is also quoted as saying, "I'm sure he's on the list, but if he's not, we'd even take a high salaried player like [Tomoaki] Kanemoto. We have a pretty decent idea of what we're looking for."
