Kento Tsujimoto to sign a minor league deal with the New York Mets

According to Nikkan Sports, Kento Tsujimoto will be signing a minor league deal with the New York Mets.  Tsujimoto apparently received word of the news just as he was about to head to Florida for tryouts with a number of other teams like the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Detroit Tigers.

Since the end of the 2010 season, Tsujimoto had been working out in Arizona and Hawaii (where's he's currently living) and taking tryouts with various teams.  He'll now head out to Arizona to continue his workouts.

Tsujimoto spent a number of years with the Hanshin Tigers (2005-2009) but never quite made it with the team.  He spent 2010 playing for the independent league team the Na Koa Ikaika Maui.

Incidentally, in 2006, Tsujimoto didn't get any playing time because the team wanted him to focus on building up his body.  In 2009, he started the season with a stress fracture in his 5th lumbar vertebra and never really got another chance.  He was then given his official release on 10/30/2009.
