Softbank Hawks Spring Camp News and Notes: February 11, 2011

by on Feb.11, 2011 @ 10:12 pm, under NPB

This post will be updated throughout the day.

===== 2/12 @ 1:11am

Nagisa Arakaki faced 7 batters during situational BP today and did not allow a hit, but did walk one.  Arakaki also threw the new two-seamer he's been working on.

===== 2/11 @ 10:12pm

Alex Cabrera did not take BP today because of some tightness in his back.  He also worked out under a separate menu (beginning with warm-ups, Cabrera worked out on his own doing things like weight lifting and getting massage therapy).

Seiichi Uchikawa is planning on being ready to play at all three outfield positions plus first and third.

Toru Hosokawa is quickly making his presence known.

He caught Toshiya Sugiuchi's 100-pitch bullpen session yesterday (sitting).  Sugiuchi later told reporters that he liked pitching to Hosokawa because he was such a big target.  He also said that he thought he might be able to get a few close calls because Hosokawa doesn't have to move him arm that much in order to catch pitches that are slightly off mark.

Hosokawa also caught Masahiko Morifuki during situational BP.  Morifuku faced 5 batters and recorded 3 strikeouts and 2 foul ball fly outs.

Morifuku - "He's a good catcher so I was felt great on the mound.  I also managed to get a strikeout on a shuto.  And I like that he told me I just needed to be myself."

Hiroki Yamada also enjoyed pitching to Hosokawa because he gave him feedback on his bullpen session.

Tsuyoshi Wada threw 67 pitches in the bullpen yesterday.  He also apparently felt some tightness in his left arm (between his wrist and elbow).

Said Wada, "I get this every year around this time.  I'm not really too worried about, but I'll keep my eye on it [just in case]."
