Chunichi Dragons Spring Camp News and Notes: February 12, 2011

by on Feb.12, 2011 @ 4:24 pm, under NPB

This post will be updated throughout the day.

===== 2/12 @ 10:42pm

Yuto Morikoshi (4th round) took part in situational BP today and collected 2 hits -- a single to right off Maximo Nelson and a double to right-center off Ryuya Ogawa.

===== 2/12 @ 4:24pm

Joel Guzman hit a ball out of Chatan Stadium (out to left) during situational BP today.

Takuya Asao threw 54 pitches (including off-speed pitches) in the bullpen today.  It was Asao's second bullpen in as many days.

Hitoki Iwase started throwing off-speed pitches during his bullpen session yesterday.  He also had bullpen catcher Masashi Fujii position himself closer to the right-handed batter's box so that he could work on throwing his shuto to the inside corner, something most left-handed pitchers tend to avoid because it's easy to accidentally leave the ball over the plate (most lefties target the outside corner against right-handed batters since a slip-up would mean the ball goes wide and out of the zone).

Hiromitsu Ochiai shared the following thoughts from last year's draft with Katsuya Nomura yesterday

We really like [Hirokazu] Sawamura.  But we didn't feel good about our changes [against the Yomiuri Giants].  We also only have Masahiro Yamamto and [Wei-Ying] Chen from the left side in our starting rotation.  [Yudai Ono] can take his time and develop over 2-3 years.

In look at footage [of Saito Yuki] he seems to be throwing better than last year.  But he just wasn't doing it for us during his senior year in college.

Doala made his first appearance of the spring at Chatan Stadium yesterday. And it seems there was an endless number of fans seeking his autograph.
