From today's intra-squad game:
Game ended in a 4-4 tie.
Masahiro Tanaka started for the reds and gave up 3 runs over 3 innings on 6 hits. All three runs Tanaka allowed came in the first inning when loaded the bases with 1 out and served up a 3-run double to left-center to Yusuke Kusuki. He also put runners on base in the second and third, but managed to keep them from scoring. Tanaka also topped out at 148km/h.
Kazuo Matsui started at short and batted second. He hit a single to center and struck out swinging.
Akinori Iwamura started at third and batted fourth. He walked and hit an infield single.
The media learned yesterday that Masahiro Tanaka will be the team's vice player rep this year, the position Naoto Watanabe held before he was traded to the Yokohama Bay Stars. Takeshi Yamasaki also approved of the move: "He has the numbers and we need him to become a leader on this team. He's young, but he'll do just fine."
Incidentally, a list of some of the things the players' are currently pushing for:
- remove ball counts from the big screen
- add a speed gun reading display behind home plate so that pitches don't have to turn around each time
- make the actual game mound the same as the mounts in the bullpen
Morning shouts started from the first day of spring camp. The original plan was to have each player face the ocean and shout out their goals for the 2011 season. But it seems lately, may of the players are trying to say funny things in order to get a laugh. And each day, the bar is getting set higher and higher.
