Rakuten Eagles decide to sign 31-year-old Ryan Speier

The Rakuten Eagles announced today that they decided to sign 31-year-old RHP Ryan Speier to a contract worth 30M yen (that includes a signing bonus). They also gave him the number 64.
Speier caught the eye of the Eagles' coaches with 2 shutout innings of work during an intra-squad game on the 12th.
