Saito's workouts today included: playing catch, infield drills, trunk strengthening exercises, and long distance catch (about 70 meters).  Saito also met with Takashi Toritani and Hiroki Uemoto -- both players were in Nago for a practice game against the Fighters today and both players are alums of Waseda University.

Saito also told reporters that he planned to throw 20-30 pitches in the bullpen while checking on his balance and form.

The media learned yesterday that Saito will most certainly get his first start in a practice game against the Yakult Swallows on the 20th (at Nago).

Saito was originally slate to make a relief appearance in that game, but since the team ultimately wants Saito to be a starter, they want to see how he handles himself at the start of the game.  And according to Daily Sports, there's a chance he could pitch as many as 3 innings (dependent on how he does and how he's feeling).

Nikkan Sports also briefly mentions that the Fighters are planning on developing Saito by using him both as a reliever and starter.  They also mention that Saito will most likely toss bullpen session on the 17th and 19th.
