The Japan Amateur Baseball Association (JABA) held a board of directors meeting on Wednesday and decided that the 2012 and 2013 Inter-City Baseball Tournaments will take place in mid-July (7/13/2012 and 7/12/2013). The tournament has been taking place in late August since 2002, but the JABA received requests from various industrial league teams to change the schedule. A schedule change for the Industrial League Championships will be discussed during a special board of directors meeting in August. In the end, this will also likely lead to a shortening of the Industrial League season in 2012 and 2013 -- instead of ending in November, the season will end in October.
The JABA also finalized a the tie break rules used during the Inter-City Baseball Tournament and the Industrial League Championships. The new rules will come into play beginning in the 12th inning (instead of the 11th inning) and will begin with the bases loaded and 1 out (this rule hasn't changed). The manager will then have the ability to choose where in the line-up the inning begins from (this part of the rule changes).
