This post will be updated throughout the day.

The Tigers have the day off today (Ichi-gun players are traveling to Aki, Kochi for second leg of camp).

===== 2/18 @ 8:18pm

Tagami spent some time in the batting cages during the team's day-off today.  Masashi Nohara worked on his hitting as well.  Both players will likely have a chance to show that they're ready for Ichi-gun during a series of three intra-squad games set to take place during the next block of spring camp.

The Ichi-gun team arrived in Aki, Kochi today.

===== 2/18 @ 2:36pm

Akinobu Mayumi selected Kyuji Fujikawa as the team's spring camp first half pitcher's MVP yesterday.

Mayumi - "[The MVP is] Fujikawa.  He didn't throw a lot of bullpens, but he pitched well from the start.  He also had to be shut down for a brief period of time, but he strengthened his lower body and was throwing pitches with a lot of life."

Fujikawa reportedly ran about 7-9km a day during the first half of spring camp and was usually the first to arrive at practice.

===

Mayumi told reporters yesterday that he has a lot riding on the shoulder of Takahiro Arai and Takashi Toritani, especially since Kenji Jojima and Tomoaki Kanemoto may not be 100% ready for the start of the regular season.

Both Arai and Toritani were selected as the team's first half position player's MVP.

===

The first leg of Ichi-gun camp ended with Tomoyuki Kubota being the only pitcher not to toss BP.  And his pitch count high from bullpen sessions so far is 33.

===

The Ni-gun position player MVP, Kenichi Tagami, went 5-for-9 over 3 practice games.

===

Takumi Akiyama threw 59 pitches in the bullpen yesterday.  He is currently scheduled to start an intra-squad game on the 21st (2 innings).

===

Daiki Enokida (1st round) threw 60 pitches in the bullpen (mostly off-speed pitches) and told reporters that he was having a hard time adjusting to the large number of fans.

===

Ryuji Wakatake threw 65 pitches in the bullpen yesterday.  He will most likely be one of the starters for tomorrow's intra-squad game.

===

Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi faced Kentaro Sekimoto, Matt Murton, and Toritani during BP yesterday and threw 86 pitches while allowing 21 could-be hits.  He also tossed 37 pitches in the bullpen.  That's 123 pitches in one day.

===

Kosuke Kato's outing against the Nippon Ham Fighters on the 16th was canceled due to a break-out of dermatitis.  Kato was back at practice yesterday and said, "My face was swollen...  But I'm all better now."

===

Kenji Jojima isn't too worried about catching Hiroyuki Kobayashi, so long as the two spend time communicating with one another.

Said Jojima, "First, it's about talking -- communication is the most important thing.  We're both pros here.  Catching, throwing, those kinds of things will be fine."

Jojima also recalled how on the day he recorded his 1,000th hit (6/1/2004), Toshiya Sugiuchi threw a fit in the dugout after giving up 7 runs in 2 innings against the Chiba Lotte Marines and ultimately suffered fractures in both his pinky fingers (the base of the finger).
