Today's intra-squad game:

The whites beat the reds, 3-1.

Takashi Kawaii start the game for the reds and gave up 3 runs (including 2 on a 2-run homer) over 2 innings of work.

Kohei Hasebe entered the game in the 5th and tossed 2 perfect innings for the red team.  He also struck out 3.

Manabu Mima (2nd round) entered the game in the 8th and tossed a shutout inning in relief; he also gave up a hit and struck out one.

Both Kazuo Matsui and Akinori Iwamura ended the day without hits -- Matsui started at short and batted 2nd: foul out to first, strikeout, foul out to first; and Iwamura started at third and batted 5th: fly out to center, ground out to the pitcher.

Yosuke Takasu was the starting DH and batted 5th for the red team.  He went 2-for-3 and was later promoted to Ichi-gun.

Teppei was named team captain today.

Akihisa Makida started complaining of right shoulder tightness during practice on the 15th and had been working under a separate training menu since.  And because things haven't gotten much better, the team decided to have doctors check out the shoulder today.

Koji Aoyama is working on a fork that Hisashi Iwakuma taught him.  His reason for picking up the new pitch: 1) while the new NPB baseball seems to have helped him add more movement to his shuto, it hasn't really done much for the slider he relied on when he needed a pitch with some downward movement and the fork makes up for that; 2) he wanted to increase his arsenal of pitches because he'd like to make his way into the starting rotation.

Senichi Hoshino told reporters yesterday that he'd like to try put together his best starting line-up for their exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants on the 20th.  That includes having Kazuo Matsui and Akinori Iwamura in the line-up.  And at this point, it seems former Yomiuri Giant Masafumi Togano will get the start.

Hoshino also doesn't plans to schedule any days off between 2/22 and 3/21.  He might even have players practice on travel days, if there's enough time.
