The Hawks have the day off today.
Keisuke Katto complained of pain in his right elbow during practice yesterday and will be returning to Fukuoka for testing. At worst, Katto could require surgery. If that happens, he could miss a large chunk of time, which means the team may have to reconsider their plan to move Tadashi Settsu into the starting rotation. And it seems Katto may have been pitching through some pain for a while during spring camp because he didn't want to let anyone down.
Katto also managed to throw 40 pitches in the bullpen yesterday.
Toru Hosokawa spent about 5 minutes talking to Dennis Houlton (with help from the interpreter) after his bullpen session yesterday. It seems Hosokawa told Houlton how his arm for throwing the change up was slightly different than his arm angle for throwing a fastball and that a batter could be pick up on the differences.
Hosokawa also gave throwing tips to fellow catchers Hiroaki Takaya and Ayatsugu Yamashita (1st round) after his sessions in the bullpen.
