UPDATE @ 2:04pm - Ichiro got his physical then spent about hour working out (running, playing catch, long throws, BP).  Seems his fat content was also close to the 6% he had last year.

Hisanori Takahashi threw 52 pitches in the bullpen on the 18th.  It was his third bullpen session.

Takahashi also told reporters that the coaches are checking of footage of Takahashi from last year so that they can provide him with appropriate advice.

===

Yoshinori Tateyama tossed his second bullpen session in as many days on the 18th.  He also had another outing as a BP pitcher.  Tateyama is currently scheduled to pitch in an intra-squad game on the 24th.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka on taking grounders on natural grass:

This is difficult.  Now that I've had a chance, I understand why [Japanese position players] had so much trouble adjusting. ... You need to use your legs a lot more (since you can't stay back on the ball as much) and that means you also need more stamina in your lower body.  It really isn't possible to cheat [on fielding] in the stadiums over here.

===

Kosuke Fukudome told reporters that this year was about playing time, more than the actual results.

Hideki Matsui arrived in Arizona today, about 4 hours later than expected.
