The Marines decided today that they will be holding a retirement ceremony for Koichi Hori on 3/12 (vs Seibu).
Yuta Omine, and a number of other players including Tetsuya Yamamoto and Shota Ishimine (1st round), took part in an event to help clean-up Ishigaki during his day off today. About 200 people showed up and helped collect garbage that filled up 121 bags of garbage (45 liter bags); they also picked up about 3,600 cigarette butts.
Bob McCrory threw 29 pitches in the bullpen yesterday. This was the first time McCrory threw off a mound since he tossed BP on 2/7. Since then, he's run into some problems like catching cold (he had a fever) and having right shoulder and right leg tightness. At this point, he's throwing his fastballs at about 50% and is still he's having problems finding consistency with his off-speed pitches.
Tatsuya Uchi has also run into some problems (right ankle pains) and is currently working out at Ni-gun.
Both players were considered closing candidates, but if neither player is ready for the start of the regular season, the Marines may be forced to begin the season with a closer-by-committee setup (made up of 2-3 pitchers).
Seven players, including Tadahito Iguchi, Yoshihisa Naruse, and Ikuhiro Kiyota, visited a child welfare facility called Narasa after practice yesterday.
