Today's exhibition game against the Rakuten Eagles:
===== 2/20 @ 3:55pm
Sawamura threw 57 pitches in the bullpen today. He also told reporters that he was no longer feeling any pain / tightness in his neck.
Tetsuya Matsumoto did not play in yesterday's exhibition game against the Hiroshima Carp because he was hit by a pitch on his right knee during Friday's intra-squad game. Matsumoto was in the starting line-up against the Rakuten Eagles today.
===== 2/20 @ 12:21pm
The team arrived in Okinawa after 9pm yesterday. About 1,200 fans greeted the team in the airport lobby. That's more than the 1,100 fans that showed up for the Nippon Ham Fighters on 1/31.
Despite losing yesterday's exhibition game against the Hiroshima Carp, Tatsunori Hara was happy at how the team manufactured a run in the 5th inning -- Yoshinobu Takahashi reached on a walk; Daisuke Fujimura entered the game as a pinch-runner for Takahashi; Fujimura successfully stole second after given the sign to steal; Hisayashi Chono failed to lay down a sac bunt, but still managed to get the runner over to third on a grounder to first; Toshimasa Konta was hit by a pitch; and with runners on first and third and 1 out, Ryota Wakiya hit a sac fly to left.
Hirokazu Sawamura's (1st round) scheduled start today against the Rakuten Eagles was canceled yesterday due to neck pain. He first started feeling discomfort on the morning of the 18th.
Said general pitching coach Kazuhisa Kawaguchi, "He slept [on things] wrong, and he was feeling some tightness in his shoulder and his entire body. We might have him make an appearance in relief while in Okinawa, but he won't be making any starts. We already know what he's capable of. We'll probably have him start once we get back to Tokyo."
Sawamura next appearance could come on the 24th (vs Hanwha Eagles).
FYI: Sawamura had not done any throwing since his intra-squad game outing on the 15th.
