Yakult Swallows Spring Camp News and Notes: February 21, 2011

The Swallows Ni-gun roster has the day off today.


Today's practice game against the Orix Buffaloes:

The Swallows won the game, 2-1.

Shohei Tateyama started the game and did not allow a run over 2 innings of work.  He did surrender a hit and topped out at 147km/h.

Masanori Ishikawa entered the game in the third and pitched an inning in relief (he retired the side in order).

Yuki Shichijo (2nd round) entered the game in the 4th and allowed a run over 3 innings of work.  He also gave up 3 hits, struck out 2, and walked/hit 1 batter.

The Swallows got on the board first when Shinichi Takeuchi led off the 3rd with a solo homer to right (off Kazuki Kondo).  With the score tied at one in the 6th inning, Josh Whitesell gave the Swallows a lead with a homer to center (off Shinya Nakayama).

Yesterday's practice game against the Doosan Bears (Ni-gun):

The Bears won the game, 9-2 (9 innings).

Ryo Hirai started for the Swallows and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits (including a homer).  He also struck out 4 and walked/hit 7 batters.

Masahiro Yoshikawa entered the game in the 5th and gave up 6 runs (4 earned) over 2 innings of work.  He allowed 4 hits (including a homer), walked/hit 2 batters and struck out 2.

Nariaki Kawasaki started in right and batted 6th.  He hit a solo homer in the 2nd.
