by on Feb.23, 2011 @ 1:02 pm, under MLB

Daisuke Matsuzaka will pitch in an exhibition game against the Minnesota Twins on the 28th (US time).  He ended his practices early on the 22nd in order to get his right eye check out (most likely due to allergies).

On the 21st, Matsuzaka faced Mike Cameron and Ryan Kalish during BP and threw 38 pitches.  The two batters swung the bat 12 times and managed 2 could-be hits.  Matsuzaka also spent about 10 minutes talking about the outing to Jason Varitek.

Junichi Tazawa threw 25 pitches in the bullpen (with the catcher at normal distance) on the 22nd.  Tazawa told reporters that he still got worried about re-injurying himself and that he had to work on addressing that as he continued his training.  He also plans on tossing a bullpen session on two days of rest.

Yoshinori Tateyama faced 5 batters during BP on the 22nd and threw 35 pitches.

===

Koji Uehara spent some time checking on his mechanics (like his arm angle when throwing the shuto) on the 22nd.

===

Hiroki Kuroda threw 35 pitches to 7 batters during BP on the 21st.  He also threw his new curve 11 times.

===

Ichiro Suzuki stayed back for extra running (intervals of around 60 meters; about 20 minutes) on the 22nd.  He told reporters he still had some time before his eye exam and figured he'd get some extra running in.

Earlier in the day, Ichiro stood in the batter's box against live pitchers and saw 30 pitches (he also swung the bat lightly on about 4 pitches).

During regular BP on the 21st, Ichiro took 20 swings and hit 3 over the fence.

===

Hideki Matsui did some base-running (with cleats) on the 22nd.  He also took about 30 pitches in the cages before swinging the bat 36 times against a live arm (he hit one over the fence).

===

Kosuke Fukudome spent about 30 minutes after general practice on the 22nd working on his hitting.

===

Tsuyoshi Nishioka visited the clubhouse on the 22nd to introduce himself to his new teammates.  Nishioka saw his new jersey hanging in his locker and told reporters that he decided not to wear the new uniform until the 23rd (start of Spring Training).

===

Justine Siegal is scheduled to toss BP to the Oakland A's on the 23rd (US time).  On the 21st, she became the first woman to pitch batting practice to a major league team.

===

Noriyoshi Omichi will be heading to the US on the 27th to begin his training as a coach with the New York Yankees.  Omichi will be with the Yankees the entire year and will split time amongst all levels of Yankees' minor league organization.  Omichi will be paying for all expenses out of his own pocket.

Omichi - "I want to study US baseball culture and learn more about the training / coaching methods.  I also want to see how the coaches communicate with the players.  In the end, I want to return to Japan full of new information."
