Hanshin Tigers Spring Camp News and Notes: February 23, 2011

by on Feb.23, 2011 @ 10:26 am, under NPB

This post will be updated throughout the day.

===

The Ichi-gun roster has the day off today.

===== 2/24 @ 1:42am

Yuya Nohara was the first to arrive at the stadium (after 10am) during the team's day off today and spent time working on his swing (soft-toss BP and BP in the cages).

===

Takuya Takahama and Shunsuke Fujikawa showed up at the stadium at the same time today.  The spent parts of their day off doing things like running and playing catch.

===

Since no one player has stepped up for the starting CF job so far, it seems Akinobu Mayumi is thinking of using the hottest hand during the regular season.

===== 2/23 @ 10:26am

The Tigers play two exhibition games against the Orix Buffaloes on 2/26 and 2/27.  Daiki Enokida (1st round) will probably get the start on the 26th while Tatsuya Kojima will probably get the start on the 27th.  Both Hirotaka Egusa and Ryuji Wakatake are also scheduled to make appearances.

FYI: Enokida threw 61 pitches in the bullpen yesterday; Egusa threw about 40 pitches; and Wakatake threw 111 pitches.

===

Takumi Akiyama arrived at the stadium at 7:40am yesterday.  His training schedule for the day involved a lot of running.

FWIW: Kenji Jojima arrived at 7:27am.

===

Yasutomo Kubo threw a total 304 pitches in his bullpen session yesterday (about an hour and 15 minutes).

===

Atsushi Nomi threw 180 pitches in the bullpen yesterday.

===

Yuya Nohara took extra fielding and batting practice yesterday.  Akinobu Mayumi hit balls to Nohara during extra fielding practice and later told reporters that centerfield might not suit Nohara.

===

Ni-gun manager Haruki Yoshitake told reporters that Ni-gun spring camp went well and that he wanted to keep that going once he returned to Naruohama.  He also added that players that weren't selected to remain at Ichi-gun camp should stay positive and continue to push forward with their workouts because there was still a good chance that changes could be made before the start of the regular season.

And speaking of Ni-gun: the Tigers decided to send Masashi Nohara, Kazuya Tsutsui, and Yusuke Kawasaki back to Osaka (in other words, they were demoted).

===

Tomoaki Kanemoto took 38 swings during BP yesterday and hit 1 over the fence.

===

While Tomoyuki Kubota did not toss a bullpen session yesterday, he did do some long distance throwing (about 90 meters).  Kubota is still expected to toss BP at some point during the final block of spring camp (perhaps tomorrow).
