Today's practice game against the KIA Tigers:

The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Tadashi Settsu started the game and did not allow a run over 2 innings of work.  While he did surrender 2 hits, he still only faced the minimum 6 batters.

Soichi Fuijta tossed a shutout inning in relief.

Ayatsugu Yamashita (1st round) entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 6th and recorded a hit and stole second.  On defense, he threw out a runner trying to steal second in the 8th.

The A Group (Ichi-gun) closed out their camp in Miyazaki today.

Toshiya Sugiuchi and Tsuyoshi Wada are more or less locks for the first two spots in the rotation.  That leaves four spots for eight possible candidates.

Pitching coach Ikuo Takayama told reporters he was thinking about having two starters pitch (4 innings each) in one exhibition game.  As of now, the pairs include: Hiroki Yamamda and Sho Iwasaki; Dennis Houlton and Anthony Lerew; Shinsuke Ogura and Nagisa Arakaki; and Tadashi Settsu and Yao-Hsun Yang.
