According to Daily Sports the Chiba Lotte Marines were planning on making an announcement that they were going to selection money only compensation, but decided that they would take one more look at the Tigers' players during exhibition games on the 26th and 27th. Sanspo notes that the Marines decided to reconsider taking a player as compensation because of frequent injuries.
Daily Sports also mentions that the Marines may have added a few more names (with a focus on non-pitchers) to their list of players they have interest in. The report also drops Takuya Takahama's name as a possible target. Takahama has been making the headlines over the last couple of weeks, but was under the radar back when the Tigers created their 28-man protected player list. It's entirely possible that Takahama's name isn't on the protected player list and that his recent performances impressed the Marines enough to make them want to get another look.
