Team president Nobuo Minami told reporters that he felt the Tigers needed to go out and trade for an outfielder with some pop in case things don't go well with Tomoaki Kanemoto, or the younger players don't step up as expected.
Kanemoto's rehab this spring hasn't been very consistent, leading some people in the organization wondering just how realistic it is to expect the 42-year-old to be ready on opening day. The Tigers' experiment in center with 4 young players also hasn't gone quite as well as they were hoping.
As of now, it appears the team might be able to find a willing partner in the Pacific League. Nikkan Sports mentions players like Shoitsu Omatsu (LOT), Naotaka Takehara (LOT), Hiroshi Shibahara (SOF), Tomoaki Egawa (SOF) and G.G. Sato (SEI) as possible targets of interest.
