by on Mar.06, 2011 @ 11:36 am, under MLB

From exhibition games on the 5th:

Seattle Mariners 7 - Cleveland Indians
Ichiro Suzuki was the starting DH and batted 1st (replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 7th).  He went 1-for-2 with a run scored: double to left, ground out to the pitcher, walk.

Florida Marlins 11 - Boston Red Sox 2
Daisuke Matsuzaka started the game and gave up 7 runs (5 earned) over 3 innings of work (6 H, 2 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR).

Chicago Cubs 9 - San Diego Padres 4
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted 1st (replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 5th).  He went 2-for-3 with a a run scored and a stolen base: strikeout, single to center, single to right.

Milwaukee Brewers 2 - LA Angels 1
Takashi Saito entered the game in the 4th, still 0-0, and did not allow a run over 0.2 innings of work (0 H, 1 BB, 0 SO, 0 HR).

Hideki Matsui took 188 swings between two session of soft-toss BP and on session of BP against a live arm on the 5th.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka felt some discomfort near his left ankle on the 5th and got the day off from practice.  It seems Nishioka may have suffered a minor contusion during Friday's (3/4) exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Nishioka also reportedly told Ron Gardenhire that second base was probably a better option for him at this point.

The NY Mets are planning on seeing how Ryota Igarashi handles pitching on consecutive 3/6 and 3/7.

The Atlanta Braves won't be rushing Kenshin Kawakami through his training and will have him workout under the same schedule as the other pitchers (slowly work up to outings as BP pitcher and then moving on to pitching in exhibition games).

Kazuki Nishijima and Kazuya Takano started their workouts (which included fielding practice and shadow pitching) at the LA Dodgers minor league facilities on the 5th.
