3/11/2011: Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, Daisuke Matsuzaka

From exhibition games on the 10th:

Seattle Mariners 10 - LA Angels 5
Ichiro Suzuki was the starting DH and batted first (replace by pinch-hitter in the 5th).  He went 2-for-3 with an RBI: single to left (picked off first), ground out to second, RBI single to center.  Ichiro has now hit safely in 5 straight exhibition games.

Oakland A's 4 - KC Royals 4
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted 4th (replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 8th).  He went 0-for-3: fly out to left, ground out to second, strikeout swinging.

Tampa Bay Rays 8 - Boston Red Sox 6
Daisuke Matsuzaka started the game and gave up 5 runs over 3.2 innings of work: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR.

Chicago Cubs 2 - Cleveland Indians 1
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted first (replaced on defense in the 7th).  He went 0-for-3: strikeout, strikeout, foul out to third.

NY Mets 9 - Florida Marlins 4
Ryota Igarashi entered the game in the 9th, the the Mets up 9-3, and gave up a run over an inning of work: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 0 HR.


Hideki Matsui stayed back after the game in the 10th in order to work on his hitting (about 30 minutes of soft toss BP).  He is currently 1-for-17 during exhibition play and does not have a hit in two straight games.


NHK plan on broadcasting 320 MLB games this season, up 84 from last year.
