Yasuyuki Kataoka was responsible for driving in the team's first non-home run RBI since the 8th inning of Sunday's game against the Softbank Hawks on 4/17. That's a span of 43 consecutive innings without a non-home run RBI.
Kazuhisa Ishii recorded a win in his start against the Orix Buffaloes yesterday. He now has at least one victory in each season since 1993 (a span of 19 years which also includes his 4 years in the Majors).
Nippon Ham Fighters
According to Nikkan Sports, Sho Nakata is 3-for-6 with 5 RBI when the bases are juiced.
The Fighters will sell a Yuki Saito mini photo album (containing 14 pictures) that commemorates his first pro victory. The album will be available for purchase between 4/24 and 5/8 for 1,500 yen. Supplies will be limited.
The Buffaloes have scored just 2 runs over their last three games (that's a 2-run game sandwiched between two shutouts).
With runners on first and second and 2 out, Shinya Nakayama gave up a 2-run double to Takumi Kuriyama after the count went to 3-2. Nakayama was yanked after that, but Akinobu Okada was actually hoping Nakayama would just go ahead and walk Kuriyama after the count went full and have Yoshihisa Hirano face Hiroyuki Nakajima with the bases loaded.
Randy Ruiz has been helping Romulo Sanchez out -- Sanchez doesn't speak English very well and Ruiz has helped the team translate his Spanish into English for the team interpreter.
Senichi Hoshino is determined to return to Sendai one or more games above 500. As of this posting, at 6-5-0, they're 1 game over 500. Including tonight's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters, the Eagles have 3 games remaining until the 29th (they play the Seibu Lions next). They'll need to go at least 2-1 in order for that to happen.
