Yuichi Honda became Yu Darvish's 1,000th career strikeout victim in the 8th inning of tonight's game between the Softbank Hawks and Nippon Ham Fighters. Darvish is the 129th pitcher in NPB history to achieve the milestone and the quickest (at 1,058.2 innings) to 1,000 in franchise history (7th overall behind Kei Igawa). Darvish recorded his very first strikeout on 6/15/2005 against Hiroshima (at Sapporo Dome).
UPDATE 4/26 @ 9:25am - Darvish recorded his 1,000th strikeout at the age of 24 and 8 months. That's good for a 4th place tie on the all-time list with Daisuke Matsuzaka (2005). Above that: Tsuneo Horiuchi at 24 years and 6 months (1972); Keishi Suzuki at 22 years and 7 months (1970); Yutaka Enatsu at 22 years and 1 month (1970); and Masaichi Kaneda at 20 years and 11 months (1954).
This was also Darvish's 39th double-digit strikeout game and 10th against the Softbank Hawks.
