PL News and Notes: Darvish, Iwakuma, Naruse make some history

Seibu Lions

Hideto Asamura has safely collected a hit in each of the team's 12 games so far this year.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Yoshihisa Naruse recorded his second straight complete game shutout and also won his 10th straight game against the Orix Buffaloes yesterday (going back to 2009).

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito is currently driving a Subaru Legacy B4.  But that's a loaner until his Legacy Outback arrives around the summer (a car he decided to purchase for about 3M yen).

Orix Buffaloes

The Buffaloes were shutout last night for the 3rd time over their last 5 games.

Rakuten Eagles

Sky Perfect TV will be broadcasting the Rakuten Eagles' home opener at Kleenex Stadium on the 29th for free.

Hisashi Iwakuma's 13 strikeouts in last night's game tied his career high.  The victory ensures the Eagles will be returning to Sendai with at least a 500 record.

Takeshi Yamasaki's 12-game hitting streak came to an end last night.

Other

Yu Darvish (HAM), Hisashi Iwakuma (RAK) and Yoshihisa Naruse (LOT) all struck out 10 or more batters yesterday.  That's the first time 3 pitchers recorded double-digit strikeouts since Toshiya Sugiuchi (SOF), Fumiya Nishiguchi (SEI), and Kanehisa Arime (RAK) on 8/20/2005; and the second time in league history that 3 pitchers recorded double-digit strikeouts and recorded victories since Hisanobu Watanaba (SEI), Nobuyuki Hoshino (ORI) and Yasumitsu Shibata (HAM) on 9/16/1989.

The last time three pitchers recorded double-digit strikeouts and won their games in the Central League was 6/4/1961: Hiroshi Gondo (CHU), Minoru Murayama (HAN), and Masaichi Kaneda (KOK).

Something appears to be wrong with Bill Murphy. I watched his last start, and he was throwing his fastball at around 134-138 the whole outing. Yikes.
