Kazuki Yoshimi tossed 6 shutout innings today. Throw in the 7 shutout innings from his first start of the season (on the 20th vs Yakult) and Yoshimi has not allowed a run over 13 consecutive innings.
Minoru Iwata started his third game of the season and is still looking for that first victory since 10/4/2009 (vs Chunichi at Koshien).
The umps made another questionable call during tonight's game against the Hiroshima Carp (at Mazda Stadium): Yoshiyuki Ishihara attempted to lay down a sac bunt in the 6th inning with a runner on first and and no out. On the view from the CF camera, you can sort of see the ball hitting the bat twice (Ishihara popped the bunt up and hit the ball with the bat a second time as it came down), but the home plate ump announced that it was a foul ball that Kenji Jojima dropped (after about a 5 minute argument with Akinobu Mayumi).
On slow motion replay, it does seem indeed seem as though the bat hit the ball twice, which would mean the ball is dead, the batter is out, and the runners go back to their previous bases.
Michihiro Ogasawara went 0-for-4 tonight with four strikeouts. He does not have a hit over his last 17 consecutive trips to the plate.
Shohei Tateyama tossed a shutout against the Yomiuri Giants tonight, giving him back-to-back shutouts in his last two starts.
With their victory against the Hanshin Tigers tonight, the Carp are guaranteed a winning April.
