Chiba Lotte Marines

The coaches checked on the lighting levels at QVC Marine Field today -- the lights were turned down 20% and the coaches checked on the visibility of the baseball.  OF / base-running coach Masafumi Yamamori told reporters that they were able to see the baseball without any problems (even in the rain).

The Marines are scheduled to play their first night game at QVC Marine Field on 5/10 (vs Seibu).

Rakuten Eagles

Before yesterday's game against the Orix Buffaloes, Takeshi Yamasaki promised about 20 kids from Minamisanriku (an area that was struck pretty hard by the March 11 earthquakes) that he would hit a homer for them during the game.  Senichi Hoshino jokingly chimed in and said that Yamasaki would hit three.  Yamasaki did manage to hit a homer during the game and called out to the kids during his hero interview after the game: "I'm sorry it was only one homer, but I did come through with my promise.  Things will continue to be difficult, so please, do what you can to help out the people around you.  I'm counting on you!"

All three game balls from Eagles' openers this season were put up for display at Kleenex Stadium yesterday.
