Games from the 1st:

Boston Red Sox 3 - Seattle Mariners 2
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 0-for-4: fly out to left, ground out to second, strikeout swinging, fly out to left.

Oakland A's 7 - Texas Rangers 2
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted sixth.  He went 1-for-3: strikeout looking, RBI double (run scored), strikeout swinging, walk.  Matsui also crossed home plate for the 1,500th time (901 NPB + 599 MLB).

Arizona Diamondbacks 4 - Chicago Cubs 3
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted first.  He went 1-for-4: double to left, strike out looking, strikeout swinging, ground out to the pitcher.


Daisuke Matsuzaka's next started will be on the 6th (vs Minnesota at Boston) on 6 days of rest.  Matsuzaka played catch for about 15 minutes on the 1st.


Tsuyoshi Nishioka continues to make good progress, although there's still no timetable on his return.  A snip from update at MLB.com:

"Nishioka's X-rays showed good healing," assistant trainer Dave Pruemer said. "We're progressing him to more land-based exercises and baseball activities."


Nishioka has been hitting in the cage and throwing, but has not taken ground balls.
