Good god, those look like the 1980’s Houston Astros uniforms. Those ones are still a punch line.

It’s almost like they just stopped trying.

I mean their road [ http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rakuteneagles2/m0100006/ ] and alternate [ http://item.rakuten.co.jp/rakuteneagles2/m010002/ ] uniforms aren’t awful, and I suppose if you like simple and clean they’re nice, but it almost seems they had a random person in the office sit down with a copy of Photoshop.

BTW: I almost titled this post the “Rakuten Astros Inter-league Series 7 Year Anniversary Special Edition Uniforms.”

I still can’t see too much of a difference between Rakuten’s “new” jerseys they introduced last year and their 2006-2009 jerseys. Sure the logo and font changed a bit, but not much else did.

As far as imitating uniforms goes, I shouldn’t really complain since Yomiuri has (I think) always based their uniforms off the New York (baseball) Giants, Chunichi’s older uniforms looked like the Dodgers, and Hiroshima’s cap logo is the same as Cincinnati’s. I guess I just didn’t expect the 1980’s Houston Astros uniforms to be the latest ones to be imitated.

I think NPB is trying to replicate the entire pre-wild card NL West (Giants, Dodgers, Reds, and now Astros).

In Chunichi’s case, they had an official partnership with the Dodgers. That’s why.
