FYI: Golden Week technically refers to a period of time containing 4 public holidays: 4/29 (Showa Day); 5/3 (Constitution Memorial Day); 5/4 (Greenery Day); and 5/5 (Children's Day).  But some companies also give employees days off, or allow employees to take days off, in between each of the 4 holidays.  Throw in the weekends and Golden Week can actually end up being 10 days long.  For example, I know some people that started their vacations on 4/29 and won't return to work until 5/9 -- meaning in addition to two weekends and the 4 public holidays, they're also getting 4/30 (Friday), 5/2 (Monday), and 5/6 (Friday) off (for some it's paid, for others it's just a designated day off by their company).
