Softbank Hawks

Seiichi Uchikiawa was held out of the starting line-up for the first time this season.  Uchikawa tweaked his right hamstring during yesterday game against the Rakuten Eagles and the Hawks wanted to give him the day off today.

Yuichi Honda has collected at least 1 hit in all 19 regular season games so far.  If he collects a hit tomorrow, he'll tie Larry Raines' 1954 PL record of 20 consecutive games with a hit to start the season.  The NPB record of 24 games from the start of the season was set by Yutaka Wada (Hanshin) in 1997.

Orix Buffaloes

Chihiro Kaneko started a Ni-gun game against Hanshin today and tossed a shutout inning (1 walk, 1 strikeout, 0 hits 20 pitches).  He also topped out at 146km/h.  This was his first start since going under the knife in February (right elbow).  Kaneko will likely get another start after about a week and pitch around 3 innings.

Kimiyasu Kudo spent his 48th birthday as a special guest at this year's Chibirinpic.  Kudo also plans on starting up his training again in June (his right calf is feeling better) and is hoping to land a spot with a team next year.
