Wei-Ying Chen managed to drop about 8kg since spring camp and is currently at his ideal weight of 84km.
Shinnosuke Abe could be added to the active roster as early as the 13th (vs Hiroshima @ Mazda Stadium). Abe worked out at Giants Stadium on Friday and was able to accomplish everything on the practice schedule (which included fielding and batting practice). But before he joins the active roster, he'll play in a couple of rehab game as Ni-gun, beginning on the 10th (vs Rakuten). If he doesn't hit any setbacks, he could be ready to rejoin the active roster on the 13th.
The Giants announced that they'll be playing their 6/29 game vs Yakult at Koriyama Kaiseizan Baseball Stadium.
Yoshinori Sato could get a start at Kleenex Stadium (Inter-league games vs Raktuen on 5/20 and 5/21) if one of his starts gets pushed off a day due to a rain cancellation. And according to some reports, it's possible his next start on the 11th (vs Chunichi) could get rained out (based on current weather conditions). That would put his next start on the 13th (vs Yokohama) and his start after that on the 20th.
The Swallows worked out at Botchan Stadium on Friday. Veteran players like Shinya Miyamoto and Ryoji Aikawa also took part in the practice session. Regarding the spot left open in the bullpen after Kenichi Matsuoka's demotion, Junji Ogawa told reporters he'll likely turn to players like Tony Barnette and Takehiko Oshimoto.
Chief pitching coach Yutaka Ono told reporters that he felt Kenta Maeda was throwing too hard and needed to dial things back a little.
Right now, it seems like he's trying to throw at 100% by throwing at 120%. And because he's trying to throw so hard, he's losing control of his pitches. I think it'll be better if he can relax and throw easy at about 80%.
Maeda is scheduled to start tomorrow's game against the Yakult Swallows.
