by on May.09, 2011 @ 9:23 pm, under NPB

The Japan Professional Baseball Players Association announced the findings of their yearly report on player salaries.

The average 2011 salary is 39.31M yen, up 1.01M yen from last year.  There are also eighty 100M+ yen players in the league (38 in the Central League and 42 in the Pacific League).  Both figures establish new highs (going back to the start of the reports in 1980).

The Chunichi Dragons, Hanshin Tigers, and Softbank Hawks lead all teams with nine 100M+ yen players.  Players aged 36 and up are also averaging 100M+ yen for the fourth straight year.

The Tigers lead all NPB teams in average salary (about 55.46M yen) and total payroll (about 3.5B yen).

I'll post more once the full report is made available at the official JPBPA site.

FYI on exchanges: 1M yen is currently worth about US$12,000 and 100M yen about US$1.2M.  3.5B yen is about US$43M.
