巨人の星 was sent to the Lions as a result.

A little sad to see Hoshi go, but I suppose they felt they had to move someone with the addition of Takahashi. The Giants have a fairly large number of catchers and Hoshi appeared to be the odd man out.
Takahashi should be a solid pick-up for the Giants. Ryal hasn’t exactly knocked anyone’s socks off at third this year and Takahashi does have some pop (he’s been down at Ni-gun and has put good numbers: a slash line of .400 / .458 / .738 in 23 games).
EDIT: I should probably have added that the addition of Takahashi will give the Giants more options, not make is sound like he’d play third, especially since he’s a 1B / C. And it isn’t just Ryal that’s struggling — Ogasawara has had problems and the Giants are currently without both Yoshinobu Takahashi and Shinnosuke Abe.

So perhaps the Fighters really didn’t move to Sapporo.

Well, Takahashi was one of the few remaining Tokyo Dome Fighters and his wife used to dance for the Giants dance squad.
