Seiichi Uchikawa told reporters yesterday that he plans on telling the coaches he's ready to get back into the starting line-up.
Takayuki Kishi's first regular season start could come on 5/15 (vs Softbank). The Lions are hopeful Kishi will be able to step up, especially important with Hideaki Wakui nursing some discomfort in his right elbow.
Nippon Ham Fighters
The Fighters are hoping that Yuki Saito will be good enough to return to the active roster by as early as 6/5 (vs Yomiuri Giants). Regarding the pain, Saito told reporters yesterday that there was no change -- he didn't have any problems doing day-to-day stuff, like running, but he was still feeling pain when it came to throwing the ball.
The chief trainer also told reporters that the injury was worse than they had expected and that they were shutting Saito down for at least one week (he'll start throwing during the second week and then move into the bullpen in the third week).
A portion of position players spent time working on their hitting during their day off yesterday (like Motohiro Shima and Masato Nakamura).
