Takashi Toritani suffered an injury to his right index finger (there was blood and it seems he may have suffered a crack fingernail) while fielding a ball that was hit by Kazuhiro Wada in the first inning with 2 out.
UPDATE @ 9:35pm - Sanspo reports that while Toritani suffered a partially torn fingernail, the bones in the finger did not suffer any damage. Regarding his status for Tuesday's game, Toritani said that he had to wait and see how he was doing.
UPDATE 5/16 @ 3:39pm - Toritani jammed his right index finger while fielding a ball during pre-game last year (before a game on 5/25 vs Lotte at Koshien) and was used primarily as a pinch-hitter for four games. Chief trainer Tatsuzo Tsunekawa told reporters that the injury he suffered yesterday (diagnosed as a laceration on his right index finger nail bed) was probably worse than the jammed finger from last year.
