by on May.21, 2011 @ 11:20 pm, under NPB

Softbank Hawks

Toshiya Sugiuchi tossed a complete game shutout victory against the Hanshin Tigers today, his second in as many starts.  This is a career first for Sugiuchi.

Hawks' starters also tied a franchise record by tossing three consecutive complete game shutout victories in a row, beginning with D.J. Houlton on 5/18 (vs Hiroshima), Hiroki Yamada on 5/20 (vs Hanshin), and Sugiuchi today (vs Hanshin).  Another complete game shutout victory tomorrow will set a new franchise.

Hidenori Tanoue was added to the active roster today for the first time this season.  It seems the Hawks are looking to Tanoue to provide some pop from the right side (likely off the bench) in games where the DH rule is no used.

Seibu Lions

For the Lions' next round of Inter-league Old Timers Pre-Game Ceremonial At Bat (vs Yakult Swallows at Seibu Dome): 5/28 - Katsumi Hirosawa will face Kento Sugiyama; 5/29 - Hideki Kuriyama will face Takashi Ishii.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Injury update: Yuki Saito (left oblique strain) played some catch and did some running today.  He is scheduled to throw some pitches off the bullpen mound tomorrow to see if he can throw off an incline without any pain (standing catcher).

Orix Buffaloes

The Buffaloes are scheduled to wear Kintetsu Buffalo retro uniforms during games on 8/12 - 8/14 (vs Seibu) and 8/26 - 8/28 (vs Lotte).

Injury update: Chihiro Kaneko (right elbow) started a Ni-gun game against Chunichi today and gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits over 6 innings of work.  He also struck out 6.  This was Kaneko's 3rd rehab outing.

Rakuten Eagles

Masato Nakamura left today's game after getting hit by a pitch on his right arm in the 2nd inning.  No other updates have been posted as of yet.
