Softbank Hawks

The Hawks have yet to lose an Inter-league game and are now 6-0-2.  That sets a new franchise high (8 straight games to start Inter-league play without a loss).

Tsuyoshi Wada gave Takahiro Mahara yesterday's game ball.

Mahara has had a tough start to the year: his mother passed away just before the start of the season (4/10) and couldn't seem to get things into gear after that.  On 4/24, the team decided to demote Mahara to Ni-gun after one of the worst starts of his career (he allowed a run in all 5 appearances he made).  He was finally made it back to the active roster on 5/23 and he managed to record his first save of the year last night in his first appearance since returning.

Injury update: Kenji Akashi (making his way back from left foot surgery) played in a Ni-gun / San-gun practice game on the 15th, his first game since November 2010.  Assuming no setbacks, he could play in a Ni-gun rehab game some time next week.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Tadahito Iguchi extended his hitting streak to 14 games tonight.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito threw 62 pitches (including off-speed pitches) in the bullpen today.  As of now, it seems likely that he'll make his first rehab start on the 28th (Ni-gun game vs Yomiuri at Giants Stadium).  After that, he could make additional rehab starts (with an increasing workloads) on 6/4 (vs Yokohama) and 6/11 (vs Lotte).
