by on May.27, 2011 @ 7:44 am, under NPB

Chunichi Dragons

Hitoki Iwase became just the 2nd player in NPB history to appear in 700 games as a reliever.  The other player: Yoshitaka Katori with 739 appearances as a reliever.

Hanshin Tigers

Owner Nobuo Minami told reporters after last night's game that the team still wasn't thinking about pushing the panic button.  GM Shoji Numasawa added that, just like during any season, there's always a chance the team might make some deals before the trade deadline.

An 8-year-old kid caught the ball that Matt Murton tossed into the stands last night after thinking the 8th inning was over.  The kid was excited about catching the ball, but wasn't sure why the crowd was down about it (seems he thought he had to throw it back at one point).  It wasn't until his friend's mother explained the rule to him that he understood what had happened.

Kenji Jojima was left out of the starting line-up tonight because of tightness in his back.  At this point, the club doesn't think it's serious and they expect him back in the starting line-up on the 28th.

Ikketsu Sho started an Ikusei game against JX-ENEOS today and gave up 7 runs on 10 hits over 3.2 innings of work.

Yomiuri Giants

The Giants will be demoting Shinji Takahashi and Hidetoshi Tsuburaya and calling up Kazunari Sanematsu and Ryota Wakiya.

The Giants set a new franchise record for consecutive games to start a season without a complete game (34).

Injury report: Michihiro Ogasawara took BP off a tee yesterday using both hands for the first time since his left calf injury.  He also did some running and played some catch.

Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima caught last night's Softbank @ Yomiuri game at Tokyo Dome.  It was their first game together since 5/26/2010.

Yakult Swallows

Tony Barnette is apparently back with the team again and will spend some time at Ni-gun before returning to the active roster.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Shuichi Murata recorded his 42nd career Inter-league homer last night.

Norihiro Nakamura took 135 swings of the bat during BP today and hit 18 over the fence.
