Toshiya Sugiuchi struck out 11 batters during his start today. It was his 45th career double-digit strikeout game, good for a 5th place tie on the All-Time list with Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Tsuyoshi Wada right ankle is making good progress -- he joined the team for practice at Koshien Stadium today and told reporters that his ankle was fine. At this point, it seems he won't miss his next start (vs Yomiuri at Yahoo Dome on 6/8).
Takeya Nakamura was hit by a pitch on his left hand in the 9th inning and removed from the game. He was later taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a contusion (no broken bones). Nakamura is essentially day-to-day.
Ryoma Nogami will be demoted to Ni-gun after allowing a 2-out walk-off homer in the 11th inning to end tonight's game against the Chunichi Dragons in a 2-1 loss. Had Nogami managed to toss a shutout, the game would have ended in a 1-1 tie since the game was over the 3.5 hour time limit.
Chiba Lotte Marines
Tae-Kyun Kim hit a 3-run homer in the top of the 9th against the Yokohama Bay Stars today that gave the Marines a 6-5 come-from-behind victory. Kim told reporters that he was looking home run all the way and wasn't even think about making contact to keep the inning going.
The Eagles dropped their 500th franchise loss today (in it's 7th season). The loss also dropped them into last place in the PL for the first time this season.
