CL News and Notes: Ryosuke Hirata records walk-off homers in back-to-back games

by on Jun.06, 2011 @ 12:14 am, under NPB

Chunichi Dragons

Ryosuke Hirata became the 8th player (and first since Kazuo Matsui in 2002) in the NPB to record walk-off homers in back-to-back games.

Hanshin Tigers

Kenji Jojima failed to homer off the Softbank Hawks this season, meaning he'll have to wait until next year to become the 7th player in NPB history to record a homer of 13 different NPB teams.

Yomiuri Giants

Michihiro Ogasawara went 0-for-3 during a Ni-gun practice game against JR Higashi Nihon today.  Ogaswara started at first, batted third, and was removed after 5 innings.  He will also be joining the Ichi-gun team for practice tomorrow so that the coaches can check on his progress and decide on his schedule.

Hiroshima Carp

Yoshikazu Kura was removed from today's game after he was hit by a pitch near the base of his right ring and pinky fingers in the 5th inning.  He was taken to the hospital during the game and diagnosed with a contusion (no broken bones).  Kura is considered day-to-day.

The Hiroshima Carp announced that they welcomed their 10,000th fan in a wheelchair (that's since Mazda Stadium opened in 2009).  Tetsuya Kokubo greeted Takaaki Yamashita personally (as a rep for the club) and presented him with a replica stadium model (1/1,500th scale), an autographed Kenta Maeda uniform, and a wind-breaker.
